Mega-pixel cameras are a true digital cameras unlike the common security camera that is actually analog and then the signal is converted to digital by the DVR and stored on a hard drive. Mega-Pixel cameras have the ability to capture the image with many times more resolution than analog cameras. A high end analog camera when converted to digital for recording can use up to about .3 Mega Pixels per frame. A mega-Pixel camera starts out at 1.3 Mega-pixels and goes up from that point. This use of more pixels to draw the image will give us much greater detail of the object allowing us to be able to cover a larger area with the same resolution. The higher the MP rating, the larger the area that can be covered, or the more detail that can be made out when digitally zoomed in. Since these cameras are true digital, they send their signal via Cat5 cable instead of coax cable. This is a large benefit when installing a system and saves time and money.
